I'm on the east-coast. I watched the show because of the comments it received and was glad to have done so. I applaud all Detroiters and all laborers in general whose purpose congress so blatantly impedes.

I'm on the west-coast. Mitch said people on the west coast shouldn't complain about poor MPG from US automobiles, but instead should drive less. Hey Mitch, if California had better mass transit we would drive less. If California had better roads we wouldn't spend so much time idling on congested freeways...of which sometimes it can take over an hour to travel 5-10 miles. California has 3 times the population of Illnois. That is all I want to say.

I am a proud Detroiter now living in Louisville, Kentucky and I must say that your interview with Mitch Albom was fantastic. I was born, reared and educated in Detroit. I started my career there and had a successful middle class life as the child of parents that worked in the factories. My father retired after working 35 years at the GM Fleetwood plant and my mother work at the Chrysler Desoto plant. My parents were able to purchase and pay for homes, take vacations, save money for our education and enjoy the American Dream because of the opportunities that they had being gainfully employed. Neither of my parents had graduated from high school yet they provided college educations for me and my four sibblings.

My father repudiated his home town of Detoit after the riots of the 60s--like many. He moved away. Mitch Alboom's interview made him proud of his Detroit; for the first time he spoke fondly of this Detroit. He even saved his copy of Malcom Bingay's DETROIT IS MY HOMETOWN charred from his recent home burning and razing. Must have been quite an interview. As a former San Francisco, CA resident, I too moved back. I am not surprised the video is not available on line. I had to come back to Michigan to remember anything about this place, this Michigan.

I would like to see the whole interview with Mitch Albom. He made his point clearly and succinctly. I want to know more and see the complete interview since I missed the beginning. Also told Michigan friends about it.
Any chance you'll post the whole interview? soon?

Mitch was compelling. I live here in Michigan, right in the heart of it all. Charlie asked Mitch if he was speaking for the average Detroiter, and yes he was. He spoke our minds. I broke down crying while listening to him. Everything he said was true. Today the snow is falling hard and deep, I can't even imagine how the scores of homeless are holding up. This state is in a world of hurt, beyond most outside this states imagination. People screamed when Katrina hit, they screamed where are you, help ups we're American's. Yes Mitch spoke out loud and clear. We too are screaming and I feel certain no one knows no one understands just how horrible it is in this state. Mitch sent out a warning about what's happening to us may very well be what's coming your way. I say honker down people, you've never seen anything like this. We're screaming and you might very well be on the verge getting a taste of what we're going through. You have no one but your self's to blame. The country needs to know what is going on in this state if not for our good but just to see what’s coming your way. We are California on fire, we are New Orleans, we are the New York Trade Center and no one seems to give a dam. This country is blind and it’s sick. How we’ll ever get the world to like us is beyond me. Thank you Charlie for shining a small light on us. Mitch -- we love you. I hope many will read Mitches article in Sports Illustrated. And thank you Sports Illustrated. Thank you.
