McCain/Giulliani... It's in the bag. No contest. McCain will be the next President.
Preston 08/24/2008 09:43 AM Report
HUCKABEE, LIEBERMAN, QUAYLE, Pawlenty... My vote goes to Obama... And I'll bet Obama wins.
Preston 08/24/2008 09:28 AM Report
Obama showed good judgement here, picked the best one available. It'll be very much similar to the W. Bush administration, where the VP has more experience and knowledge than the President himself. Although Joe Biden is more of an attack dog than Cheney, and is very good at "appearing authoritatively competent" (at plagiarizing speeches and just being "plain wrong" about just about everything.hehehe). There's some rumors McCain might choose Joseph Lieberman. I hope that's not true, BIG MISTAKE! Would be worse than Dan Quayle! It has to be Guiullani and if he won't do it (which may be the case) then it's time to tuck in the chin and play some smash mouth football and choose, Romney, who would make a great President, if we could just get him in there.
TABS 08/23/2008 05:02 PM Report
With Joe Biden aboard now we know what Obama's NEW CAMPAIGN SLOGAN will be...."NOTHIN IS GONA CHANGE"
sock puppet 08/23/2008 03:40 PM Report
He shoulda picked a distaff member to placate the disaffected Hillaryites. Black-Feminine ticket would have won on sympathy alone - logic be damned.
TABS 08/23/2008 02:56 PM Report
The selection of Joe Biden is a tacit admission that Obama is out of his depth in foreign policy matters. He has turned over American Foreign Policy to an old Washington hand. What that means in effect that it is going to be more of the same old same old American Foreign Policy going forward. Read that AS NO CHANGE in relationship with other nations. That rhetoric has just gone out the window. One must realize that for 60 years American Foreign Policy has been rather consistent, the GW admin just left out the reach around, in the false impression that they weren't needed.
Obama chose wisely, Biden is a good pick. It was either a Biden or face mass defections from the party come November. However as in everything it is a 2 edged sword. When Obama and Biden get on stage together, one is going to be thinking which one of these guys is running for President again and which one is going to be the VP? This comparison is going to highlight how inadequate Obama's experience is in handling the big job. In a sense it is an admission that Obama ain't qualified for the job and needs a Babysitter.
If Obama makes it into the Oval Office, who is going to be calling the shots? Will Obama just be a puppet for show while the real business of government is being done out of the VP's office? So maybe Biden will become the real President after all, while Obama just makes his fancy speeches about bringing change to America.
cripes 08/19/2008 07:01 PM Report
If Obama picks this guy he is going to send the few still awake right into a coma.
Lisa W 08/19/2008 05:06 PM Report
Wish it was going to be Colin Powell.
Marjorie 08/15/2008 09:42 AM Report
I am a couple of weeks late viewing this interview, but I heard from everyone how outstanding it was and how impressive Tim Kaine was. Amen!
Preston 08/09/2008 06:46 PM Report
They say the economy will pick up after the election; if that's so. Then why the hell don't they have the election NOW?!... Sorry TABS, I'm just trying to humor that "John Harp" stick-in-the-mud.
TABS 08/09/2008 05:57 PM Report
While one wouldn't wish ones worst enemy Senators Kennedys illness as it is a terrible thing, his political power is in question and bears discussion. The Lion of the Senate is losing his teeth, and this appears to be his last hurrah..... While he was in the hospital, it was Hillary who vowed to take the fight for the nomination to the convention. when Senator Kennedy went home, Hillary quietly gave up the ghost of her being nominated...... Secondly it was shortly thereafter that Caroline Kennedy was appointed to the vetting commitee regarding the nomination of the Obama VP. Why would Caroline need to be on the commitee, when in the old days all Edward Kennedy would have to say is BOO to have his will done. The simple fact is that Carolines mere presence belies how ill Senator Kenndy really is. That he needs a proxy shows that he has to have someone who he trusts implicitly to do his bidding and that person is Caroline. The second point is that if one has enough of money, one can make their home into an ICU if need be. So the trick here is how often are we going to see Senator Kennedys face in public, and under what circumstances? It does seem the Kennedys are trying to hold it together one last time.
Preston 08/09/2008 03:46 PM Report
I agree, we should start our own website, snob.com dedicated to the abolition of free speech. Hail Cesar!
TABS 08/09/2008 03:38 PM Report
Dear Harp:.....................Struck a nerve did we? Such a viperous response gives everything away. Exactly why does one think that this Comment Board exists, it certainily is not for Mr. Roses health. It does serve as an overnight rating service to see how well Mr Roses guests are received by the great unwashed public that he panders to.
John Harp 08/09/2008 02:15 PM Report
No sensible person can take any comment on the internet seriously. A place where people can post anonymous, vulgar, or childish positions only serves the Conservative/Caesarist people in our society, and I hope more patient and insightful people will not waste their time posting replys on here.
Preston 08/09/2008 07:48 AM Report
Mr. Mac.,
What you describe, would be the most politically correct election, not just of this country or world, but of the entire universe; worthy of a major league Chinese fireworks display the likes of which the world has never seen. It would be enough to make the most extreme extremist smile.
Neil MacCallister 08/08/2008 03:05 PM Report
(I apologize to Ms. Condoleezza Rice, I am typing quickly on my lunch break!)
Neil MacCallister 08/08/2008 02:54 PM Report
What are we so afraid of? From the very beginning, this election race should have been Sens. Obama and Clinton opposing Sen. McCain and Sec. of State Codoleezza Rice.
It could still be if we quit wasting time.
Preston 08/06/2008 07:57 AM Report
Mr. TABS, your last comment shows very keen insight; either that, or your crazier than a loon. But I would bet on your insight, you make a couple of jumps, but they are totally reasonable and logical jumps. Thank you for sharing that.
TABS 08/05/2008 05:37 PM Report
Dear Mr Rose:...........When a local yokel from way out west can figure this one out from 3000 miles away and the Washington Press corp has not reported on it, it does tend to make the press corps look like a bunch of trained monkeys...........When Senator Edward Kennedy agreed to support Obama, he apparently got the right to pick his own man for the VP slot along with final approval of a couple of Supreme Court Justices. Caroline Kennedy is acting as Senator Kennedy's bag lady in the matter. The Obama campaign aka David Axelrod wants someone who at least can balance the ticket and help with all those disaffected Regan Dems, while also having the Liberal credentials to be simpatico with Obama. Thus we come up with Govenator Timmy Kaine as a likely prospect as he was most likely had a helping hand from the Kennedy's in getting himself into office. His appearance on your show was his audition, to see how well he was received in public. It is of little consequence that Timmy Kaine's mother and all his friends wrote glowing comments about him on this Board. It is simply reflective of the struggle in the Obama campaign to find a suitable VP candidate with not only the right credentials but suitability for the Kennedy's. It is also apparent by the quality and experience of Mr Kaine that they are short on names with any gravitas.......Now enter Nancy Pelosi, as stated in other comments on this Board, she has been having trouble with the big donors like Jamie Dimon who think Obama is "crazy." Those donors want somebody with gravitas who knows enough not to kill the golden goose of the economy with their extremist social programs. Their apparent choice would be Chet Edward of Texas, who serves on the Budget Committee. Thus you can see that once again the Democrats are busy snatching defeat from victory. If this kind of Day Camp electioneering is reflective of things to come, Senator McCain could be on life support and still win.
Preston 08/05/2008 07:37 AM Report
Meyesh, I can see your point Mr. TABS. Mr. Kaine would be like (an agent with a whip) from the Capitol of the Confederacy representing the interest of the real plantation owners (the Kennedys) headed up by the most direct descendant of Cum-alot. Meyesh I can see it now, at least half of Mr. Obama should be afraid, he should be very afraid. I suspect Oliver Stone might be in on this conspiracy as well. All I can say, is America and Mrs. Obama better be ready for alot of booze and ditzy blonds in the White House. Again.
TABS 08/05/2008 02:44 AM Report
BTW Preston it wasn't Govenator Kaines Mother that wrote all those glowing comments about the good govenator. it was Caroline Kennedy.
TABS 08/05/2008 02:08 AM Report
Well Mr Preston, Somehow I just think that Govenator Kaine is on a very short list of VP considerations. After all somebody has to represent the Kennedys interests in the White House. After all Mr Kaine would serve as a good watchdog to see that Obama doesn't stray too far from the script that has been written for him.
Preston 08/04/2008 06:37 PM Report
Yes Mr. TABS, I suspect all this hokie sounding praise being bestowed upon this very boring, professional politician, Tim Kaine fellow is either the work of his mother or Republicans hoping he is "the one"... The truth hurts more than it sets me free.
TABS 08/04/2008 01:22 PM Report
Correction:........Ms Nancy Pelosi wants to chain Obama to the status quo by have a Conservative Democrat on the ticket. Ms Pelosi's one attribute is that she is an excellent fund raiser for the party. Those donors are not happy with the way things are going and are expressing their opinion with their checkbooks. Mr Kaine on the other hand represents a way too Liberal point of view to satisify those donors. After all Ms Pelosi understands one thing that Mr Obama does not, and that it is all about MONEY and not values........
TABS 08/04/2008 01:18 PM Report

TABS 08/04/2008 12:59 PM Report
It seems like the friends of Govenator Kaine are merrily acting as cheerleaders for him by shilling for him in these comments. This is amateurism at its best, the reason being that many of these comments seem so scripted. We shall see if this is the best Obama can do?
Irish 08/04/2008 11:41 AM Report
Nice guy - but better than Hillary Clinton? Uh...no.
Elise 08/03/2008 07:42 PM Report
This was my first introduction to Tim Kaine. I had the same "Wow! Who is this guy!? Maybe he's THE ONE!" kind of feeling I had when I first saw Barack Obama. It's almost too much to hope for that he'll be Obama's VP choice. Thank you Charlie Rose for giving us the opportunity to hear Tim Kaine. Not only did he, with your help, show why he'd be a great running mate and executive-branch partner to Obama, Gov. Kaine also provided one of the most excellent, easy-to-understand explanations of why Obama should be the next president.

musta made you feel quite at home.

After watching this on tv, I was so impressed I wanted to hear this interview again. this guy is the one.
BT 08/02/2008 05:24 PM Report
This is my first real introduction to Gov. Kaine and I am certainly impressed with him. He is definitely in tune with Obama on campaign message and overall attitude. My concern is his lack of experience, particularly on foreign policy. That's why I think Obama should go with Biden.
BVA 08/02/2008 05:19 PM Report
If you had read "The Political Brain" (2007) by Drew Westen you would understand what is going on in the Obama-McCain race!

Another fabulous conversation with Governer Kaine, Mr. Rose. I enjoyed this conversation in the same level I enjoyed few of your conversations with notable governers and mayors. This is the kind of leadership we need, a leader who has a certain opinion on issues that are highly contentious yet willing to accept the will of the people. I would not think Gov. Kaine will be a good V.P. for Sen. Obama, but he would sure bring an interesting perspective to the back support so Sen. Obama will be elected and Virginia will come to the Democratic camp. This election many states are going to change their support base, North Carolina, Georgia, Virginia are amongest. Thank you for the nice conversation.
Richard Krane 08/02/2008 12:44 PM Report
Re: Charlie's interview of Governor Tim Kaine of Virginia, I heartily agree with, and could not express better, the thoughts and sentiments so well articluated by Dennis Moore in the Comment he submitted Thursday, Jul 31, 2008, to wit:
"Charlie: Thanks for backing off and not interrupting. One of the best political interviews I've seen in quite a while and one of your best programs in some time, imho. I'm glad I caught this, perhaps seminal, moment in our political "conversation." Not only did I come away really impressed by Kaine who I was really pretty unfamiliar with, but also with a better feeling about supporting Obama. (Does that give you a hint about my thoughts regardling the choice for VP?)"
Tristan 08/01/2008 11:46 PM Report
An Obama-Kaine ticket would be so far beyond the limited intellectual capacity of grampa McCain and his brethren that you almost have to laugh. What's stopping me from laughing is that the American people elected George Bush
TWICE. I'm scared to think of what will happen this time around. OLD negative ad tactics from McCain saying that Barrack is responsible for high gas prices. Are you kidding me? With TWO Harvard grads with intellect in the White House - we should thank God. Going from 'could it get any worse than it is now' to something nice would be a VERY welcome CHANGE?
TABS 08/01/2008 06:26 PM Report
What are we going to "CHANGE" into? That is the question enquiring minds want to know? Mr Obama hasn't spelled out a THING? Maybe the "Change" is from the Republicans into the Democrats in power.......As TABS has said before, look at California under the Democrats and that is what the US will begin to resemble. California has a $15,000,000,000.00 budget deficit AGAIN. The Democrats want to INCREASE taxes on Corporations and the Wealthy by $8,200,000,000.00 to help cover the shortfall. Meanwhile Governator Arnold is laying off state employees.

I fell asleep about halfway through the interview. Pathological narcissists do that to me late at night. Could any viewers tell us if Tim supported Obama's RIGHT WAR-RIGHT PLACE-RIGHT TIME-AFGANISTAN rap.And what about Barry's idea for a SURGE IN KABUL. Pease Senator, don't betrays us now!
Barbara 08/01/2008 01:46 PM Report
What a great guy: smart, sincere, dedicated. His vision for the country seems to coincide well with Obama's. I hope Kaine is Obama's VP choice.
Thanks, Charlie, for a thorough interview.

If he is a friend to Obama he should let him know that blanket accusations of racism against wide ranges of Americans is not "uniting". Republicans wont put up with what Democrats allowed to happen to one of their own.
Cole 08/01/2008 10:31 AM Report
Wow. I had no idea this guy was so smooth. Look out GOP. This guy is good.

I just watched Kaine on Rose, followed by Lattenberg on Stewart. _____________________________________Which world do I want to live in? Let's see...................... 1- Under leadership of men like Kaine and Obama, taking steps to put us in a strong competitive position because they get it.......... OR 2 - Under the influence of a bunch of NEOCONS constantly fear-mongering to push us from WAR TO WAR.
Chas. 08/01/2008 12:11 AM Report
Governor Kaine is the rare public servant who, over the past 2 decades, has led with intelligence, compassion and courage. Charlie: your interview offered an honest look at a leader who is clearly committed to the success of our nation. Senator Obama and all of us would be lucky to have him as VP.
Michael Shandrick 07/31/2008 10:45 PM Report
For once, a Democrat with ideals and logic.
Ferdinand Gajewski 07/31/2008 09:49 PM Report
Why, I wonder, do observant Roman Catholics like Governor Tim Kaine want to hold political offices wherein they are obliged to uphold laws protecting abortion, the death penalty and so forth. I recall Cardinal Ratzinger offered an opinion in this regard some years ago.
Preston 07/31/2008 07:11 PM Report
I have no idea what the big deal is about this guy; he's so wonderful and bright because he rode in on the coat tails of Mark Warner and then he turns $200.00 traffic violation/fines into $2000.00 traffic violation/fines. Sounds like sound judgment to me. No, not arrogant crazy. Because, I don't live in Virginia, and even if I did, I never go over the speed limit, and even if I did, I'm rich. So, it wouldn't affect me. Nonny Nonny Boo Boo.
Kathy 07/31/2008 07:02 PM Report
I was very impressed with Gov. Kaine. He is smart, thoughtful and a comforting voice. His personality and thoughtfulness reminds me of Sen. Obama. I can picture him as v.p. My only concern is not alot of experience in foreign affairs.
Ema 07/31/2008 03:01 PM Report
This is the man we have been waiting for.
norma 07/31/2008 02:34 PM Report
Fascinating interview. I was not familiar with Gov. Kaine. Now, however, I am excited about what he can add to the Oboma ticket.
I look forward to the change!
