If you had read "The Political Brain" (2007) by Drew Westen you would understand what is going on in the Obama-McCain race!
Great comeback, hmmm. Your critical faculties are appropriate for a Charlie Rose forum. Don't take my word for it: http://www.commondreams.org/archive/2008/06/28/9954/ http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/07/02/hillarys-brain-trust-move_n_110422.html http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/04/opinion/04fri1.html?_r=1&scp=1&sq=new+and+not+improved&st=nyt&oref=slogin
well Kyle, you sure fit the half a brain part.
"The Democrats are giving him some latitude." – Adam Nagourney's rationale for Obama's moves to the center. Perhaps "him" isn't the right word. Don't you all find it conspicuous that Obama's many changes in direction (pandering to AIPAC and faith voters, "refining" his positions on Iraq, telecom immunity, campaign finance, death penalty & gun control) come after his meeting with Sen. Clinton, where he discussed her campaign debt for God's sake? Obama has pawned the farm to Hillary to get elected. The idea that these moves are Obama's initiatives to get more popular support is wrong. This is Obama trading horses to get support and fundraising from Democratic Party elites and corporate interests. Obama has pulled the wool over millions of eyes and has wasted no time in taking it back to serve his own interests. Anyone with half a brain and half a spine should support and vote for Ralph Nader this year.
WHAT, more SPIN from you Mr Shaft? When you drop the pejorative narrative about the opposing political party you will gain more credibility. There is one huge misconception about McCain that the Democrats love to push and that is McCain will be a continuation of GW Bush. Nothing could be further from the truth of the matter, in that McCain is a TRUE maverick,as evidenced by the Conservative Rights dislike of him. This characteristic of being a maverick probably stemmed from his time as being a prisoner of war. McCain would in all probability be a better Democrat nominee for president than Obama, as he represents very moderate views which appeals to the vast majority of Americans.
Sen. Hillary Clinton is a tough and matured politician the Democratic Party has in its camp. Sen. Barack Obama has emerged out of the nomination contest as a shmooth politician, thanks to the lessons given by Sen. Clinton. Now that the infighting for nomination is officially over and the race for the White House between the two different political camps is on that the speed and tone of language is changing. Sen. Clinton has earned just about as many votes as Sen. Obama did, between the two of'em they managed to take a whopping of over 36 million electorates. If history is an indication these two candidates have woken up the sleeping giant unhappy American electorate with a very strong negative feeling toward the current administration. People are tired of Pres. GWB's failing policies, they want real and FUNDAMENTAL change, only the Democrats can offer. I am afraid Sen. McCain is in trouble as he has already set his tone to be a continuation of those failed policies many are resenting. Although, one cannot be confident that Sen. Obama will win over Sen. McCain, for we do not know what kind of political campaign message Sen. McCain's camp is coming up with. As Babe Ruth would say, the game is not over until it's over! Merging the two camps to reconcile yearlong small and petty differences between Sen. Obama and Sen. Clinton is a welcome development. Sen. Obama aknowledges the lessons he took from Sen. Clinton as he joined the Senate, she certainly has taught him how to be strong and assertive in trying times. He has excelled in those messages to prove to America that he is capable of overcoming hurting commentaries and uncalled for ranting by people he considered close. His assertiveness in going after what he believes is important political-litmus tester for a politician. I think he has passed all those tests by any stick measurement. He has sharpened his answers, which were evident as he has become very precise in his responses to criticism since he has began campaigning for the Democratic Party nomination. All Democratic Party elders need to begin sharpening their tools (words) now and deliver their base supports to Sen. Obama so America can go thru the overhauling to renew politics in Washington DC. Winning over the most celebrated political machination (Clintonites) is no easy task. However the coming battle with Sen. McCain will be even harder to come out victorious, as the fat GOP elephant attack machine is not going to sit idle and let an African-American evict Pres. GWB out of the White House essentially exposing their sins. They would rather have a fellow Republican help them burry their sins into the dust bin of history, hence they will come out with everything they got to put aside Sen. Obama and plant third term GWB's failed policies. They are known for their dirty tricks of vote flipping and flapping by creating chaos in known strong hold Democratic areas. We must watch them closely, they are known to employ sneaky bunch to gain upper hand. Unlike the 2000 and 2004 election we are not going to wait for them to conceed, this time we have to be aggressive like they are and assert our position and claim our winnings.
To clarify Paul V. It is the Democratic party that is telling Obama and Hillary to get along. Obama is moving to the center and is losing his populist agent of change rhetoric in order to appeal to a broader majority of Democratic Voters and Independent voters. In other words this is shaping up to be more of the same old, same old politics of yore. The question that remains is can Obama overcome the RIFT in the Democratic Party or are the majority of Dmeocrats going to defect or sit this one out. There is no amount of SPIN that can change the facts of life, or back in the old days we just called them what they were, lies.

SPIN, SPIN, SPIN. Who is tired of spin?
Why, according to Adam Nagourney, is Hillary Clinton referred to as Mrs. Clinton and Barack Obama is Senator Obama? Are female Senators less "Senatorial" than male Senators?
