Richard Price is nearly always as interesting as the books he writes, and I love hearing about his process and approach to the work. Great interview; I'm hoping Lush Life will bring in accolades beyond just the good reviews it's getting to this deserving writer.

"A WRITER IS SOMEONE OF WHOM IT CAN BE SAID THAT, WHEN HE IS STARING OFF INTO SPACE, HE IS WORKING...." [PARAPHRASE OF MR. PRICE\ Thank you Mr. Richard Price for stating this justification of the time given to precognition by the artist. It is inspiring to hear someone, most especially a successful author, say these words. There is no guarantee that any author will ever make any real money or even publish or even seek to publish. Yet, the time that most would say is "lost" staring into space can be the most precious time to any writer or artist, especially if that time ia used to engage the imagination or to explore exactly the right words, notes, etc. Not all writers are "space cadets" and not all "space cadets" are writers; but, there is definitely a sizeable intersection of the two. Some may use the word "dreamers" to mean the same thing. I like the way you (and someone before you) said it, "CALL IT SLEEP".
