It was certainly an experience never to be forgotten to see on TV or computer screen the retransmission of this great concert in Pyongeong. I live in Paris and the TV station Arte showed the concert that night and thanks to Internet I listened again twice. I was hoping that my son and family who lives in Seoul could also attend the concert.I have read that some people criticize that visit in North Korea of the New York Philharmonic. I disagree, I think it is time to show North Koreans that we expect them to follow some rules and we will treat them not as evil anymore. And they can hope to a better future.....
Thank you for the interview last night with Lorin Maazel about the concert in North Korea. I was moved by the way he described initial experiences of coldness and hostility (e.g. in facial expressions and with the poster they saw on the way from the airport)in contrast to the warmth and connection that emerged as they shared music. I had seen the special broadcast of the concert the night before on PBS, and much less of this warmth and human connection was conveyed in that presentation. We did not know what Lorin Maazel said in presenting "An American in Paris," for example, or see the audience response; we did not see the tears and long applause after the Korean folk music. Once again, I see the power of point of view and how much more openness Lorin Maazel conveyed than the producers of the concert broadcast. Can his interview be played as an introduction to future broadcasts of the concert? Thank you for a truly enriching interview once again.
Dear Mr. Rose: As you probably know, ther is going to be an "International Conference on Climate Change" March 2-4 in New York City. The topic of the confernce is "Global Warming: Truth or Swindle." According to the large ad on page A11 of the feb. 27 edition of the New York Times, there will be 98 conference speakers, including John Stossel, Roy Innis and Vaclav Klaus, along with a number of scientists. The ad says that more than 19,000 scientists have signed a petition saying global warming "probably is natural and not a crisis." The ad lists the 50 cosponsoring organizations of the conference, which apparently is being sponsored by the Heartland Institute. I think it would be very interesting to hear several of the conference participants discuss their views with you. I hope you will give serious consideration to inviting several participants from this conference to join you one night next week. I would like to hear what they have to say in light of what has been happening throughout the world regarding climate change. Thank you for your consideration. Dave Nowak
