It is really sad and disheartening reading these odious-obsessive comments.
I applaud another good interview in which Charlie asks good, tough questions. However, we received the standard Bush Administration arrogant, unrealistic babble about what THEY want at the expense of allowing our military to sacrifice lives & our government to plunge deeper in debt. Remember our government is now paying via regular monthly checks Iraqis who "say" they are fighting with us & are helping in the local reconstruction efforts. Will we continue these checks when we lower the levels of our troops there & when there is a new president?
The "hydrocarbon law" Lute refers to is actually the Haliburton Law. It will allow foreign investment in Iraqi oil, which of course is the only reason we went there in the first place! Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice, et al have been salivating over that oil for almost 5 years and they'll insist that their puppet government in Iraq pass their oil bill before the Bush entourage is out of office. Never forget and Never Again!!!
Check the past budget expenditure and emails on Doonesbury's site to see how much is being spent on "permanent bases" in Iraq. This is being hidden from the American public. The Iraqi's have been fighting for centuries....and they will be fighting for centuries long after we have quit spending billions and losing our brave military forces. We are not going to solve the problems there. Lt. Gen Lute is another of this administration mouthpieces who assume we Americans are stupid. We are not. We will remember in November.
