We had the privilege to see Marin Aslop at Strathmore Hall and were overwhelmed by her performance. Her body language and understanding of music and her warm effort to communicate with each and every member of the orchestra was a gift and a joy to watch. Bravo for both of you!

I just love this woman. Ever since she first guest-conducted, I was transported by her technique, and I am so very happy she finally came here to conduct our great symphony in our spectacularly acoustically perfect hall. I have followed symphonies since the early 1970's and I believe she is the best conductor in the world. She makes our wonderful symphony twice as good and she even stays afterward to let us question her. Come to Baltimmore - you've got to experience this wonder woman live!
Believe me- Marin is already achieving her goal here in Baltimore. She is an absolutely riveting, conductor, and her love for the music and respect for the orchestra absolutely shines through. Something exciting is definitely happening when my children are going over the program each month picking the performances they want to see, and then, even paying for their tickets! May she and the BSO have a long and "joyous" relationship!
Wonderful interview.... I live in Denver, CO and miss Marin Alsop....I did have the privilege of seeing her conduct here and it was an awesome experience. Her music makes you forget everything and all you can hear is the beauty she brings to the podium. She is a magnificent woman and musician.
Marin Alsop describes the type of leadership needed across all sectors in this country. I am a leadership coach/psycholgoist and have been using this video with my clients. Alsop has an exquisite understanding of how the beauty of the music results from mutuality between conductor and musicians. She does not ascribe to the prevailing leadership model where the leader "directs" and the followers "follow." She speaks eloquently about her vision and each musician's personal interpretation of that vision. Most importantly, she is her ability to subsume her ego in order to step in the others' shoes and do what is best for the orchestra and for the music. She does this when she addresses the musicians' distrust of her prior to being hired and successfully defuses a potentially tremendous obstacle. Thanks for a great show about leadership. Excellent show! Conversations like this one are a public service in that they re-engage viewers into the public discourse about the role of music and art in society. It is perhaps a conversation we need more than ever. When entertainment, busyness, and work dominate our lives -- we lose touch with ourselves, with mapping our inner emotional, spiritual landscape -- art music, classical music is just one of many paths back to knowing ourselves and telling the greater story of humanity in a profound way.
