Dillinger Escape Plan
Charlie Rose Tomorrow : The Dillinger Escape Plan
The Dillinger Escape Plan is a heavy metal rock band known for intense instrumentation and pounding performances that incorporate light shows, fireworks, fire breathing, and other special effects. Also known as DEP, the band was founded in 1996 by Ben Weinman - lead guitarist, and Chris Pennie - drummer, and recorded their first album with Relapse Records the following year. The band broke through with their second album, Calculating Infinity, which was widely acclaimed by underground and mainstream press. Ireworks, their latest album was released in November.

That wasn't Charlie's crew that shot the live footage. It was Eric Hunsaker and Mark Bentley of BlackLabFilm+TV ( www.blacklab.tv) Just giving credit where due, the real genius of the footage is the performances.
The video footage really does an amazing job of capturing the insane intensity of a DEP show. Charlie's video crew is to be commended!
BTW Bad Brains is a hardcore band. Led Zepplin aren't metal. I'm sure your into slipknot and think every core band is metal right zak? Where did you see them>? A mainstream festival? Maybe that's why you don't know they're core. When they played with megadeth? They were invited on that because it was full of talented bands...that's the reason the frontman from megadeth gave.
Dillinger started out small (they still are because all the mainstream kids don't care for good music) and were/are influenced by many styles of music. If one had to put them into a genre (Why are ppl listening to hardcore if they don't even know what is hardcore? And how to label a band...it's not a stoopid thing to do...but then again most ppl think it's cool not to label...wrong.)...like I was saying if one was going to put them in a genre it is Hardcore...it flat out is...the band has said so. There isn't anything metal to them...If it were metal every long haired idiot would be "your not into DEP? Your not METAL!" *drinks bear and vomits* ...I'm sorry, since they began i've listened to them and through out all that time I never heard anything from ppl who are into metal. So there...
Yeah, man! That's right. And I heard they have calculators built into their guitars. But, you know, I did almost make that mistake, you know, when they was tourin', you know? Wid all dem metal bands dat one time? YOU KNOW? And all playin' with two guitarists and bein' all influenced by both Led Zeppelin and Bad Brains and Slayer all at once, yo? You know? Naw. Dat ain't metal at all.
DEP Are not metal...they are progressive Hardcore. Mathcore if you prefer.
Now if only Charlie would do a show with the members of Rush or Neil Peart alone...would he complete the circle.
Dillinger Escape Plan Brought me to Charlie Rose and now I am really enjoying this site. I guess you have one more Crazy Dillinger Fan as a fan now Charlie!
I think music is meant to perpetuate and inspire people to evolve as human beings. Violence is violence and this music is promoting violence either to ones self or to the world around them, and what happens if they cannot express themselves this way, what are they going to do to find this type of violent release................nihilism is nihilism, and we as humans will always have phenomenon to face on this planet............Life is beautiful, and transendence is beautiful and I think this aesthetic is a place for neurotic expression, and escapism that ultimately leads to a stopping point for someone who wants to evolve as a human and not escape there humanity.
I am so happy some executive somewhere had the guts and madness to say "yes" to this being on Charlie Rose. Crazy. But perfect. DEP is my favorite band. Period. No matter who's in the lineup they've always made truthful, challenging music that absolutely DESTROYS. I smile when I think of all the different folks who'll see this and have their minds expanded by a band I hold so close in my little corner of the universe. Amazing.
@ gabriel You don't know charles that well. it's ok.
wow. i've watched chuck's show for years. i always though he was rad..always cool interviews with interesting folks...but this wins. kudos. how this happened i have no idea..charlie wakes up one day and says "hmm, i think i'm going to interview and undergound metalband today". amazing.
Awesome! Good thoughts, DEP.
finaly someone puts a spotlight on the greatest band of all time....3 cheers for charlie rose!
Always awesome to see a band who deserves recognition on a wider scale to actually get it, but the live clips aren't exactly representative of their live presence they speak so much of in the interview. Not exactly their defining song either. Nonetheless, everybody with an ear for groundbreaking music needs to check this band out. Live and recorded they destroy....
Seriously people, to drop a little DEP slang on you, this shit is 87hetfeild. People I know don't understand what I mean when I say that The Dillinger Escape Plan is the greatest band in the history of Music. That their not a band, its a mind set, an additude. Seeing them on Charlie Rose cements that point. Thanks Mr. Rose, you officially don't suck as much anymore. To all the kids and adults out there who're going to see this, Go buy the entire discography of The Dillinger Escape Plan, spend a day listening, and then you'll only begin to understand half the point.
I love this band so much.
Cheers to Charlie Rose for putting such an innovative band on television. Hopefully this will help get this revolutionary music to more hungry ears.
This band is the future of all music. 1000 light years ahead. Seeing these guys on this web site was thrilling.
