Well, a great conversation and I'm glad to have the opportunity to hear from Mr. ElBaradei. I appriciate this mans work, and his words of peace. Truly, abolition IS the only answer, in the long view. Not addressed (or I might have missed when Google video had issues) was whether Bush's crude and improper "WWIII" comment was, in fact, a "stick". I would have been curious to hear his take on this, and if he thought it (clumsy as it was) would be effective in somehow applying pressure to help the reformers gain power again, rather than the current hardline regieme. I really don't see much progress being made under the current administration. One factor I could imagine is Bush not wanting to give Aminnejad a "win" and bolster his popularity. Ideally as soon as the reformers came to power again, we would give THEM the win. I'm not sure what to think of this strategy, or if it would be effective, but I fear it is the course we're on anyway. A good interview, and an hour well spent. Thanks Charlie and Crew.

When you read comments like Keyvan's and certain pundants and so called experts who attack ElBaradei it makes one wonder if anyone has any interest in learning lessons from recent history let alone history in general. Comments like this sound strangley familiar to those made before the invasion of Iraq. How did that work out again? Oh ya, no WMD's and America trapped in what Cheney himself called the Iraq quagmire. But i'm sure things will work out better this time. Have no fear, Cheney/Bush/Leiberman ect. will have this problem "solved" by the time the next president takes office.

ElBaradei seems far too sympathetic to Arabs and to Iran, which the US after all understands very well from being in Iraq. Saying he "hopes" Iran will come clean clearly isn't adequate. However ElBaradei spoke effectively against Americans using terms like "Islamo-fascism", an anti-Muslim term which Republican Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee is a big advocate of. Unfortunately Huckabee will be Charlie's guest on Thursday.

I am happy to say that I agree with ever word that "dismayed" stated in his/her comment wholeheartedly about lil bush and his "rotten" regime! I think that Iran should withdraw from the Non-proliferation treaty!(and let the IEAE,Russia, China, and other friendly countries to them monitor their program) because with a "MAD" man (who is also a "cruel" dictator,uneducated,draft dodging coward,etc,etc, etc....)like lil bush in the White House.They need all the "protection" in the world considering lil bush grouped them in with (Iraq and N.Korea)in his "axis of evil" speech!)(Syria watch out!Remember your pipeline!)By the way, Why are we "pestering" Iran and Iranians? Didn't (OBForgotten oops! I meant OBLaden)and not SH attack America on 9/11? Didn't The House of Saud send over 15 "alleged" hijackers to attack America on 9/11?(Along with 4 Egyptians!)Didn't Pakistan fund 9/11?(Hence the "murder" of reporter Daniel Pearl (who was following the money trail which would have probably led to who was really behind 9/11....)and what about "puppet boy" over their in Afghanistan training the "alleged" hijackers.(These 4 countries will attack American again! Because they did it once and got away with it! Why not again!)(and then we will use it as the old "pretext" to "attack" Iran! like when lil bush used the old pretext of 9/11 to attack Iraq!)(How "dumb" do you think lil bush think that Americans are?) Charlie Rose,why don't you have "real" reporters and "guest" on to ask "real" questions about 9/11?(Iran, Iraq, Syria, Palestine, and N.Korea etc,etc, etc, are "Red Herring" and you know it!) You know dismayed I am not a betting person but,if lilbush and the prince of darkness (cheney)(I don't "capitalize" their names because I don't respect them!) attack Iran I bet Americans want be able to sleep at night! Because they may hit us back by poisoning are water supply, babies milk, and food products. We all better pray to God/Allah that he (lil bush) come to what ever senses he have left! before even thinking about "attacking" Iran!

My abject disappointment with my country for over a half a decade now has tainted my objectivity. So I am sure I am in the minority when I ask, What is so damnable about Iran having nuclear power, and yes the dreaded bomb. In isolation - yes, but in the extant company of potential bombers how can a legitimate complaint be raised. The pugilists amongst the owners beginning with us (US), Pakistan, India, N. Korea, Israel, Russia and who knows who else are as culpable and capable if not moreso of erratic behavior. Indeed we are developing tactical nukes that sane nations would abjure. [Side betting would doubtless give odds on the US being the next future first user of nukes.\ Our arrogant pride will goad us into atrocities that would otherwise be forgone with a little more humility. But, alas, we do things merely because we can with minimal pretexts: WMDs, Gulf of Tonkin, Dominoes, Remember the Maine. WE HAD TO NUKE THEM BEFORE THEY NUKED US (OR ISRAEL), will be our next pretext. The deterrent of Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD) works so far, but the Dr. Strangelove madmen at the controls will bring about a self-fulfilling apocalypse - for the good of mankind of course. We've conflated technology with virtue. Like Nixon and Bush, if the president does it it is legal. If the USA does it it is OK. Exemplified by our ACCEPTABLE KILL RATIO in Iraq of civilians to bad-guys of 30:1. Throw in RENDITION, TORTURE, who knows what else. Topped off by the temerity of claiming Irans army is a terrorist organization with our 150,000 Blackwater-type personnel TERRORIZING Iraqi citizens is colossal chutzpah. Our arrogance and hubris is the main impetus for proliferation around the globe. But we are the last to realize it OR WORSE TO CARE. WE WILL BOMB IRAN BEFORE SHRUB LEAVES OFFICE. CONVENTIONALLY? ALAS, PLACE YOUR BET!

Charlie, - If your neighbor is playing their stereo too loud, do you demand that they turn it down, while at the same time, refuse to discuss with them any issues they may have with you? That's the essence of what the US is doing with Iran. - As your friend Henry Kissinger said on your show recently, it's vital, in any situation in which one wants something from an unfriendly country, to be able to look at the problem from their point of view. Or as ELBaradei said - "Treat people like human beings, they will act like human beings." - What he didn't say, because after all, he IS the the prize winner, when you sow anger and distrust and threaten people with war, they will dig in their heels. - China supported North Vietnam with 90,00 rifles and according to Wikipedia, "between 1965 and 1970, over 320,000 Chinese soldiers served in North Vietnam. The peak was 1967, when 170,000 served there." And in the mid sixties, China tested a nuclear bomb. Today, they are our biggest trading partner and may be the most aggressively capitalist place on earth. - In closing, your show would beyond perfection, if all of your guests received the same southern charm, warmth and courtesy that you are famous for, as the aforementioned Dr. Kissinger does when he's on your show. - PS.
