A conversation with George Clooney

George Clooney
A conversation with George Clooney
Buy  Share
A conversation with George Clooney about his film Michael Clayton. George Clooney stars in the title role of Michael Clayton, a "fixer" at Kenner, Bach & Ledeen, a top Manhattan law firm. A former criminal prosecutor from a working-class neighborhood, Clayton is an anomaly at the white-shoe firm; in spite of his 15-year tenure, he has not been promoted to partner and probably never will be. His boss, Marty Bach, sees Clayton as an invaluable asset to the firm, but only in his "niche," one that is relegated to cleaning up the firm's sticky situations quickly and quietly.

The car company scenario reminds me of the 'narrator' role in fight club...'we don't do a recall.' 'which car company do you work for?' ' A big one.' ha! ...and...much more interesting after the film's been seen...

Get over yourselves. Don't like Clooney? Don't buy tickets. Don't watch him on TV. Say... what have you (the whiners) done to give voice to the voiceless? Let me - and all who care to read this babble - know what actions you've made in the past 12 months to stand-up and make your voice of substantial change be heard. If one of us is not free, then none of us are free.

Every time I watch George Clonney in a interview it feels like he is giving a performance, probably better than the ones he's done on film. It's as if he tries to hard to be the "nice guy" actor with substance. For all the years he's been around none of his movies have been hugh block busters even though he's done mostly fluff, except the Ocean's movies, they mirror what the public believe him to be, a cool guy who looks good and has a quick wit. The more interviews I've seen him in the more I've come to believe that George Clooney's best performances and the ones he enjoys doing the most are when he's actually playing himself.

Great interview. George Clooney sounds like one the most realistic and down to earth actors I have ever seen.

engaging, thoughful and crisp. clooney's discourse about persona - hollywood movie star and actor - were very astute. always had the feeling he was more than a "movie star," which is actually quite a boring persona to play. thank god this man has the obejctivity and maturity to see through the tinsel and confetti of the film industry. clooney and rose are two individuals who seem really engaged in life; what a refreshing change to hear two men (!) who actually get life. thank you for such an engaging conversation. eager to tune-in again for future conversations.

Dafur = 400,000 Dead in 4 years that is 273 per day, 1700 displaced everyday. Clooney and Co. have been making movies about this for 3 years now! They have held rallies for 2 years! I think more is needed I think we MUST have a telethon. If could all just give 1 dollar a day for the rest of the decade Dafur could be a burgining, vibrant society. Please help George Clooney save millions of lives. ONLY YOU CAN STOP GENOCIDE! N3\/Er 4gaiN!!!!

This interview was fantastic - so refreshing from the typical morning show-type interviews so frequently seen. Clooney is so often regarded merely as a playboy of Hollywood and rarely as the fine actor & gentleman that he is. What charisma and charm. A truly enjoyable interview!

George Clooney has it down, and how to appear authentic. Sure there is truth in it but what a stage presence. He knows exactly the type of persona he is giving. This is all part of selling himself. Read these Comments, they are all positive about George Clooney. George will stop and propt his head ready to listen to Charlie, which is just a delay for his self promoting authenticity. It is great, to watch because of the pleasing persona. Make no mistake of it, he has a sense for understanding how to protray a pleasing persona. I saw him on the red carpet, and his behavior was to adjust his tie, hair, cuffs, to promote non arrogance. George is a master. Did you hear how he studied other actor's personas off screen, to create the most pleasing type of persona. George has studied other actors to developed this persona. Regardless he is good. I feel like I want to copy his technique. Oh my gosh his girlfriend is 28, and he is 45, the fella knows what he is doing. Thanks Charlie.

I am impressed by his efforts for Darfur and his knowledge of the issues. I have never seen any of his movies, but am considering doing so. He comes across as sincere, kind, and down to earth (and he's easy on the eyes). His parents must be so very proud of him.

I usually do not enjoy Charlie's interviews with movie people. This interview, however, was different. Mr. Clooney has a quality that was expressed in this interview that was refreshing: authenticity. Mr. Clooney's straightforwardness, his honesty about his work, his confortablness in being interviewed, are all signs of a gift to express that sense of authenticity. Since this is a value in short supply in mass culture, I see only good things for Mr. Clooney's career if he continues to express and share that with us. One can only hope that other people in the movie industry that Charlie interviews will be as authentic as he was in this interview. Patrick

To clarify, Clooney's comments about his work and the film industry, etc. in this interview were terrific -- very interesting. He's obviously the real deal, very committed to his work, and has a perspective that is rooted in his experience. I think I have seen too many clips of Michael Clayton, so seeing more here (LONG clips at the beginning of this interview) makes me weary. I have never had this reaction to advertising for a film before. His publicity machine has overdone it, in my opinion: Overexposure.

I am sick of hearing about Michael Clayton. There's such a thing as too much advertising, too much media coverage. This in no way is a negative comment about Clooney, just a comment about overexposure.

I so enjoyed Charlie Rose's conversation w/George Clooney. What I found most refreshing was Mr. Clooney's quiet confidence in his craft and in himself, that required no explanation - similar to that also seen in Mr. Rose as he interviews people from all over our ever-shrinking world.
