Peter Jackson is and his crew including weta, are the only ones that can do justice to the making of the Hobbit. Do it soon before I die.
Hmmm, interesting that Bob Shaye talks about passion and love of movies when all New Line seem to be concerned with is money. Have they lost their way? Cmon guys, get an e-mail over to New Line like I have. There's no-one for The Hobbit but PJ. I will boycott the film if it goes to anyone else!
One Director to make them all, and in the darkness find them.
Watching The Lord of The Rings, is like a family re-union for me. To have anyone other than Peter J directing The Hobbit, could be like attending someone else's family re-union. It wouldn't feel right. I believe that the differences can be completely sorted out, and Peter can direct The Hobbit. Let it Be, oh Let it Be.
"No that there's just one person [who could direct The Hobbit\." Load of crap. Nice to hear them backtrack on what Bob said about working with Peter, but the movie won't get my approval unless PJ is involved. Period. Even if it turned out good I still wouldn't support it.
Come on gentlemen! We all want Peter Jackson, WETA and New Line Cinema back in bizzniz so the Hobbit can be made. That's the only true path for this film. The fans are united in this opinion.
sorry I meant to say the Peter did NOT want filming the Hobbit as part of a settlement with New Line.
Despite what these guys say there can be only one director for "The Hobbit", Peter Jackson. The fans know it and Peter knows it. I'm glad he did want to make filming the Hobbit part of a settlement with New Line. Bob Shaye and New Line need to listen to the fans and have Peter Jackson and Weta Workshop film the Hobbit!
Passion, commitment, love, all great ideals that are much needed when dealing with art...especially when handling something with as much social value as a story written by J.R.R.Tolkien because of the personal context these tales have to all of us who hold them dear. But lo! How secret desires can quite easily drive a wedge into those very same ideals and destroy something of great beauty and value before it even blossoms. To purposefully misquote Beren as he cried out in hopeless despair; "Even if the world were to be dissolved, Hurled back into the old abyss, Still it's making was good for this, The Earth, the stars, the sky, the sea, That 'the thing I love most' could for a time be". Beware of the creeping ambivalence of greed disguised as good intent. Be true to the heart of your art and it will be true in representing you! I'd like to see The Hobbit made, but not at the cost of what it represents. :)
Interesting stuff. Now get your act together, settle the suit with Peter Jackson, and get the Hobbit rolling.
Hurry up, settle the case with Peter Jackson, and get the Hobbit on route!! The fans is dying for the Hobbit!!
Charlie mentioned he narrated a documentary about New Line's history. What is the title of this documentary and where can it be seen or purchased?
If you just want to hear about the LOTR part of the interview, fast forward to 39:15 in the video.
I value the illumination offered from this discussion regarding the dynamic which occurs between creative minds and insightful investors. Obviously there are great personal and financial risks taken when endeavoring to create new media vehicles, a moving screen property or any form of meaningful art. I learned that weather or not a creative venture is profitable, the lessons resulting from it are significant achievements in their own right. Great thanks is due to those who captain risk for the sake of art and creativity for the enjoyment & enlightenment of the worlds community. Here's to another 40 innovative years of Newline Cinema.
Happy Birthday Newline.. Great Show..Great Topics.. Being a movie buff, coming from the satellite TV and DirecTv industry this was near and dear to me. I have had the honor of meeting Ted Turner and a few of the people mentioned I love hearing the comments on where the industry is going. I remember having drinks with Charlie Ergen before two small companies ever launched... one Dish the other DirecTv an New Line is some of the product we delivered.. Great Show..
