Charlie, might I say you are looking especially handsome in this interview a few days ago. I felt the interview was good. Jon Meachamâ??s assessment of Fred Thompsonâ??s entry into the race was conservative, a bit guarded but on the mark. Just as Meacham said, candidates prior to making their intentions to run official are seen as the white knight and gleam the escape under the radar of public scrutiny. Once the gauntlet is thrown into the arena, there will be plenty of time during the course of the campaign in the actual battle for the presidency where every can of worms (if any) that can be opened about Mr. Thompson will be opened and that also goes for his platform agenda. Itâ??s the nature of the beast. We will all be watching Iâ??m sure.
The Newsweek article on Fred Thompson was disturbing for it's lack of policy discussion. Almost the entire piece was spent on image and bio bits, more of a PR bit than a way to assess what this man wants to do once he's in the WH. In the interview, Meacham seemed taken with Thompson. While he was careful to deliver a few negatives here and there, it was almost as if Charlie and Jon were talking about a new person in Jon's life, and I don't mean that in a gay way. But in a way that one might feel excited about a new person they meet. Adam Nagorney on the other hand is always the consumate professional. It's pretty much impossible to read how he feels about a candidate, which is as it should be.
Once again, Meacham shows his ignorance regarding the Mormon - Christianity conflict.
