Don is there with his new book, but this isn't all about his book as it is seldom mentioned. Rickles is great in this, but I felt it could have been a half hour instead of the whole show. Rickles, like candy, can be too much after a while. He slips into his act pretty often. Serious moments are really precious though. Names are tossed around in this interview that many younger viewers will hardly remember let alone know. Strange a fellow like Newhart, the dryest comedian around, would be his favorite comedian, but he trys to explain this anomoly. Rose laughs and giggles away most of the interview, which makes this interview priceless, because we see Charlie is being interviewed as much as the Don, not directly, but indirectly! Charlie trys to keep straight, but gives up willingly about half way through, thank God.

What can I say but God Bless you Don Rickles-- You still got it and somehow I think I like you better now because you seem happier and more relaxed although I loved you through the years and different phases of your career as well. It is true that Charlie Rose did alot of interrupting, but I kinda do thye same myself so I trolerated it and tried not to hold it against him. Charlie Rose was p[robabnly really excited and couldn't hold his thoughts back---at least it was a real exchange between the two of them rather than some phony staged conversation. I will watch it again and again.

Charlie Rose please never take this interview off your website. I nave to periodically come back and watch and laugh with you and Mr. Rickles. A note Jewish mothers are known to be protective and over zealous about there children. Nothing wrong with that. After you read all those comments about Bill & Hillary you will come back for ti regain your sanity.

One would never imagine Don Rickles and Charlie Rose do not know each other. I just noticed that at the end of the interview when Rickles mentioned it. Charlie made the conversation like they have known each other for years. What an interview that was, I was very impressed with Rickles putting himself down to earth level. It was very nice to see such a huge comedian like Rickles making his vulnerable side to bare. God bless you Rickles, I also wish you another half a century of happiness.

This is for Debbie. The Charlie Rose Show is usually rebroadcasted the following day. Which it was on Aug 31st. I am privileged to live in an area where I have 3 PBS Stations. Late night Charlie Rose is viewed in my home the next day at Noon on one channel or at 5 pm. on another channel. Also when the video is available you will be able to view it on this website. I was never a Don Rickles fan but I enjoyed the interview and the way he made Charlie laugh at one point it was a hysterical laugh.

Okay. Obviously "D.R" is coming back for a command return performance...umm, interview. My request? Please ask him how he looks so good (81!?) and has stayed soooo sharp. Mama's chicken noodle soup? some vitamin cocktail his lovely wife - not named Candy - has been slipping into the double shots? or good old fashioned DNA?...America needs to know, and I'm counting on you Charlie R. to shake it out of him. ( How to stay married for 40 plus years, especially "in Hollywood" would be helpful intell, too) ....Thanks for beautiful T.V.

I, too, believe that Mr. Rose has become more intrusive with some of his guests not letting them finish their thought before interjecting his own. Occasionally I want to shout "shutup charlie" and let your guest finish their thought. In spite of above, there's not another program like it on tv for interesting guests, intelligent dialogue and no commercials. That program alone is reason to support public television, I really enjoyed the Don Rickles interview. A rare insight into the man.

I am a longtime fan and TIVO the show nightly, so it is with regret I have to say that Charlie has gotten increasingly overbearing and intrusive in some interviews. Charlie, you talked over Rickles drowning out his comments and interrupted his thoughts so many times it became ludicrous. I have noticed this tendency which you used to hold in check has been increasing of late. The Rickles interview was still good, but could have been much better had you limited yourself somewhat. I continue to watch with fondness, and hope this constructive criticism will be taken as from a true fan of the show. Let your guests air their thoughts a little more fully before you jump in with your next one, please.

The interview with Don Rickles was outstanding..especially after all the weeks of dreary pôliticos in suits. You didn't ask him about the time he was parachuted in to the Carson show because Sinatra was just sitting there, looking furious. We all saw how Rickles saved the day by making everybody laugh. You really should try to get Oscar Peterson nd Marian McPartland before they die. Cheers Margaret Pacsu

After I got over the fact that he was still alive, I was amazed at how sharp the old guy is. DR is the comic that nobody seemed to admit to liking, but always seemed to be laughing at. Good show.

First of all one of the things I love about the Charlie Rose show is the table. It looks exactly like the dinner table I sat at for the first 18 years of my life. Wow! What a show! I just love and adore Don Rickles and I was hoping he would talk about his friendship with Johnny Carson and he didn't disappoint. Johnny was my neighbor in Malibu and a friend. Johnny didn't let many people into his life not only because he was very shy but he just didn't trust most people's motives. One could easily see from this interview why Don Rickles was a man to be trusted. He can't tell a lie. He is honest almost to a fault. He is the court jester who tells the kingdom that the king isn't wearing any clothes...and he says it in a way that makes us all laugh. Telling the truth...how refreshing in this day and age. Mr. Rickles thank you for sharing your thoughts about Johnny Carson with us. Johnny's encouragement and validation changed my life forever and I am deeply indebted. Your comments about him brought tears to my heart. Mr. Rickles, wishing you all the best with your upcoming movie...I'm sure Johnny will be checking it out from above...and I'm almost certain you will have him in stitches again and again and again. Thank you and Charlie for such an inspirational interview...it was such a gift!

Open and heart-to-heart operation. A ton to learn about Charlie Rose himself, who's been getting closer and closer to IT since his own operation.

Mr. Rickles appears to be a humble and gracious gentleman. I found the interview captivating. My Dad (also an entertainer - not a Wise Guy) passed away at 88 last September/06 in Montreal. He had a great appreciation for Mr. Rickles. I miss my dad but thanks to you and your program you helped make me feel a little closer to him tonight. Thank you for the many years of pleasure you have given to so many people.

Don Rickles, I must disagree with a previous comment, IS intellectual; though it pains me a bit to admit the fact. Any moron can cause a laugh by fault, but it requires a true artist to show us our faults and make us laugh at them. He's a living sociology lesson, always has been, and I think he knows that as well. ;) My thanks to both gentleman for giving my television a touch of class this eve.

The hour with Mr. Rickles was very well spent. The great variety of subjects that you led him toward delivered at every turn, making for, what seemed to be, a very quick hour. I anxiously await his return appearance. Mr. Rickles has obviously led one of the most prolifically rich lives as an insider to Hollywood's most legendary stars. His stories are concise and captivating and the mutual respect at your table tonight made me feel like an insider as well. Thank You.

NO intellectual on Charlie Rose this evening! I have seen Don Rickles on (probably over) 100 TV programs. His appearance on your program tonight was the most revealing of the comic genius I have ever seen. Rickles as a guest on Charlie Rose seems to be a rather odd juxtaposition. But, this program allowed me to perceive Rickles in a unique and quite forthright manner. Kudos to you, Mr. Rose!

you MUST, indeed, have Bob Newhart on, after your interchange with Rickles, saying Newhart "carries the luggage..".. Priceless.
