Mr. Novak's comments about retaliation for criticizing Israel is a chilling fact that shapes the news in the U.S. When a group uses blackmail to form public opinion, that should be the news topic. Unfortunately, American mainstream news lacks the credentials to present serious world events. And, everyday that ignorance shows itself in our policies of arrogance.
What would Mr. Novak be saying if a "liberal" columnist had published the name of a CIA agent?
Here is a wonderful show thanks to Charlie Rose. One thing that would need to change: Mr Rose constant interruption of the guest. Could he possibly thinks about anotherway to make sure he gets the best and the most complete answer from his guests. Then it would be the perfect show....
I came in at a point where it looked like Mr Novack was drunk. I had no other explanation as to why he was being forthright, contrite finally.
That was an excellent interview. Charlie interrupted too much as usual( Not nearly as bad as in the Chris Hitchens show) , but Novak humored him and defended his positions well.
Great show...I don't favor Novak's politics but enjoyed the conversation immensely. Felt I knew where Charlie was coming from on the current account, balance of payments and tax cuts and was hoping he would have mentioned that the tax cut as economic stimulant is a myth. The govt's own OMB admits the cost of the cut will likely not be covered, or paid for by increased revenue. A real tac cut stimulant would be a moratorium on with holding taxes for the middle class, that money would get spent on consumer goods, which is the engine of our economy. Wealthy beneficiaries of the tax cuts invest in stocks, not refrigerators, cars, kids clothes, etc. Trillions in world wide equity mkts have recently evaporated and these losses will offset billions in gains, further contributing to the tax cut myth.
Robert Novak 8/4 A masterful interview by Charlie! One of the best and toughest I've ever seen. Novak was left holding his head under the glare of Charlie's intense probing and quick analysis. He refused to let Novak off the hook to absolve or dilute his role in shaping the conservative movement for the past 30 years! How rare and refreshing-- journalism that REVEALS THE TRUTH!! (The interview was almost as riviting as Bill Moyers' Journal programs on "Buying the War" and "Impeachment of GWB".) Please keep this kind of journalism coming...the public is starving for it. I hope Charlie brings the same zeal to the upcoming candidates debate. Lastly, we need Charlie to interview GWB as profoundly as he interviewed Novak tonight.
