A fascinating, well-informed and intelligent discussion. The reason why the performance of News shares over the last 20 years has not been much better than that of the S&P, as Andrew Ross Sorkin pointed out, is that the market really does understand Rupert Murdoch. The market knows he's a media man and a businessman and knows that he doesn't know which comes first. Sometimes it's one and sometimes it's the other. Fortunately, media properties at least move in line with the markets!

Isn't it fascinating that this acquisition and other notable consolidations (such as the Wellpoint deal of a couple years ago) raise nary an eyebrow at the FTC but mucho dinero gets spent investigating Whole Foods & its CEO to prevent their acquisition of Wild Oats? I think our whole country has become a gigantic dysfunctional family.
