Hillary Clinton is a terrible and self-serving senator and would be a disaster for this country if she were elected president. She seems to not be in tune with the clasical principles of our great republican democracy and to always make decisions based on what would make her look good and on what is popular rather than what would be best for our country.
William and Roger, are you kidding? Neither Gerth nor Van Natta touched Hillary, and Charlie made that point throughout the interview. Charlie kept pointing out that "they say that about everyone" and "everyone does that." The best Gerth and Van Natta could say was that Hillary "doesn't own up to her behavior." I often wanted to say, "Is that it? Is that all you guys were able to come up with?" At one point Charlie asked them for concrete examples and they all but said, "You have to read (i.e. pay for) the book." It's as if they were admitting they didn't have anything on Hillary but they couldn't admit that because they wanted to sell books. And they will. The right will run out and buy it and will find the same ol' stories that don't add up to a HILL of beans.
I loved this show. After reading the preceding comments, it seems hard to get to the bottom of anything re certain political figures. But I have a fuller understanding of Mrs. Clinton from this interview. thanks.
Jeff Gerth? Oh please! Hillary does not have my vote (in the primaries at least) but as a public figure she deserves to be dealt with fairly especially on public television. What's next, Rush Slimeball on Hillary. Have you, Mr. Rose, no standards left.
I watched your show last night with Jeff Gerth and Dan Van Natta last night, and I was extremely upset at the uncritical acceptance of what they had to say. I have nothing to say about Van Natta, but Jeff Gerth's reporting on the Clintons has been, in my opinion, been totally discredited. His original report that started the "Whitewater" affair and ended in impeachment was a story about James McDougal who put the Whitewater deal together and who later bought an S&L. McDougal claimed that Clinton had protected him. All of these claims were thoroughly debunked. Gene Lyons wrote a book on it. The worst of it, that even Lyons failed to grasp, was that Gerth's source was psychotic--and I use the word psychotic advisedly. Mcdougal suffered from a serious bipolor disorder and that is one of the mental illnesses that psychiatrists have traditionally called a psychosis. McDougal was delusional much of the time. He was in the hospital at the time State regulators had him removed from management of his S&L. Gerth spent the rest of the Clinton years trying to prove that one or both of them were crooks. The Clintons, of course, come about as close as you can to being proven innocent--a logical impossibility. Small wonder that Mrs. Clinton refused to talk with Gerth and, perhaps, told anyone who works with her to shun him. He is a character assassin. Ask the unfortunate Dr. Lee.
