Re Interview with Fred Thompson Whoever put up Fred Thompson for candidacy I think did this poor confused, inadequately prepared man a disservice. Did I hear him conflate the Iranian Shiite-led government with Sunni al-Qaeda? Confused on torture.... Lord God, please spare us. You are performing a service, Charlie Rose, by your hour-long interviews with presidential candidates, and I thank you. Sincerely, Barbara E. Berg

I agree with Mr. McCubbin. There is a fine line between holding an interview in such a way that a dynamic conversation happens on the one hand, and interrupting your guest with pithy, unnecessary commentary to make yourself appear useful on the other. Rose is not particularly smart, and is rather insecure, and sadly as a result often gets in the way of the brilliant guests he "interviews." Complaints aside, Brzezinski, when allowed to speak, is such a breath of fresh, rational air. I could listen to the man talk for hours. I hope voices of reason and indeed compassion such as his are being listened to by the powers that be. What he advocates in the end is a restoration of America's ideals, and I couldn't agree more.

Dr. Brzezinski presents his opinions on the abilities and achievements of the US diplomacy during the years. I am now back to Poland, after several years spent in the academic and governmental research in the US. Dr. Brzezinski draws very interesting, optimistic scenario to have the US and EU countries in a constructive alliance for coming years. It was an extraordinary pleasure hearing to such well organized conduct of thought. We are hearing to your show in Poland, Charlie รข?? thank you for the website.

Briliant. Great points. Dr. Brzezinski talks with knowledge, experience, degnity, social justice and above all humanity in this show. He is a reminder of US/Americans image of 1960s and seventies, the good old time.

Brzezinski express a major point when he says that peoples in the world ask for dignity before they ask for democracy. It is true that we cannot promote democracy if peoples feel humiliated. (And pride is a very important value in the Middle East) But it is true also that our own democracies would not be able to function well without respect for the dignity of every citizens and minorities and political parties inside. Democracy is not simply the rule of the majority, as it is becoming the case in Iraq, but it is first of all the respect of the minorities, without which it means nothing better than the rule of an enlightened despot. So this has to be applied wisely on the world scene also.

Brzezinski is absolutely right about America reclaiming a positive world leadership role, in part by changing our hyper-consumptive, overindulgent habits. I think most Americans are willing and capable of doing it - we just need the right national leadership to spur us on.

Excellent discussion. Dr. Brzezinski's book is insightfull and immediate. . . I was somewhat taken by Mr. Rose's defense of Sen. Lieberman's irresponsibly aggressive comments toward Iran, however. Clearly the senator's comments have more to do with advancing Irael's cause at the moment and Mr. Rose, who has been wrong on Iraq since 2003, should be, respecfully, more careful about his biases on the air. Great show, however, thank you. Robert Philbin

I believe an important point that Brzezinski made at the very end of the program, was that beginning with the next Administration Americans will have start realizing that our consumption levels (think of it as lifestyle)will have to be reduced and that this "sacrifice" towards a fairer more sustainable world is part of what the world will appreciate as our "leadership". ... Growth as we've defined it, until now, will have to be reconsidered.- my interpretation.

It is YOU, Mr. Alvin D Hofer who are not being honest (with yourself, first and foremost). Until you come to terms with the fact that Mr. Brezinski speaks the objective truth, that the USA (both government AND media) does in fact favor Israel, then there can never be the honest brokering and discussions needed for lasting peace. I assume you DO want peace, don't you?

After listening to last night's discussion leave out the subject, I would very much like to hear Mr. Brzezinski's thoughts on what our relationship ought to be with China and what our and the world's relationship ought to be with Taiwan and Tibet. Do we follow the open global economy, best economic policy protecting the US, or take the moral high ground for peoples that are kept in global limbo through economic pressure exerted by China?

AGAIN with the interrupting....Dr. Brezinski actually had to say, "Let me finish my point..." because he was making an argument (and Charlie apparently thought he was more clever than his guest so he should be inserting content)...just please LISTEN to your guests and let them make their arguments! Then challenge them with hard questions IN BETWEEN their points....sheash.

Why did you, Mr Rose, allow Brzezinski unchallenged to say that the US has favored Israel rather than act as a "broker" in negotiations with Arafat and others since? By not asking for an explanation, you lent credibility to his statement. I don't think you acted as an honest broker for the truth in this regard.
