the famous writing about the famous is to culture what a vomitorium (common usage) is to public health.
Charlie, I enjoyed the Tina Brown interview so much that I came to your site to view other times she's been on. She seemed very perceptive to me, and it caused me to go to the New Yorker site and read some excerpts, which I would have never done before. I think I've been around my stodgy conservatives for so long, I've forgotten how to say anything but, "No!" and "It won't work!" as phrases. I may move to being an independent after reading and hearing good guests on your program. I understand why you interrupt, too; it's your prerogative to change the line of conversation to fit the schedule and avoid "speechifying" by your guests. We all tend to do that, but we need someone to signal us to turn a bit. Thanks!
Did anyone else perceive Tina Brown to have a physical resemblance to Diana if Diana had lived another 20 years?? Charlie Rose is intelligent and insightful--but stop interrupting so often--let your guests finish their sentences. It borders on rude. And one more embarrassing question--where does Tina brown get her hair cut? I'm actually serious about this--great haircut!
I don't know. Charlie had that perverted smile on his face when Tina was talking about having sex.
Tina and Charlie, You are SOOO right: there is no real place to have authentic conversations in America. It is becoming impossible or at least, difficult, to have real conversation about meaningful, world-worthy topics. Charlie, thank you for your show. America and the world would be a lesser place without it.
I enjoyed Tina Brown just for her controversial nature- she is what she is. congrats on the timeliness of the interview-pure pop culture....anyone who adjures "gossip" may be just abit above us all. . I ,for one , enjoy this " lightness of being. Thank you Charlie.
I have watched your show...watched your interviews with James WATSON (Nobel Prize DNA)... I have watched with interest your shows on CLONING... etc... THEN... you come UP with TINA BROWN.... and her GOSSIP on...the LATE Princess Diana's disturbed .... last few days???? Oh please...GIVE us a BREAK...!! An interview with TINA Brown...???? Is she a modern day ANN LANDERS??? I switched the TV off!!
Charlie, i feel i can replace you when it comes to shows like this. Anyway please don't interrupt yr guests, you tend to give answers of yr questions yrself.

Is it of quality or not of quality? Our cultural problems go deeper than that. With so much media sludge and popular bile, I estimate 99% of us don't know what quality "is." We take what's popular to be a sign of authority, and if we're familiar with the Milgram experiment, authority is always right, so to speak. The principles of good must be objective, but popular taste fluctuates because the principles of quality are frequently being violated. The purpose of art is to make up for what life is missing. Necessity derives from survival and our drive to evolve and improve. Can anybody think of a better standard for objective beauty?
I am a great fan of Charlie's and have enjoyed his shows. I enjoyed his conversation with Tina Brown last night. Thanks and hope many more years of good conversations to come.
I had so many laughs during that your interview with Tina Brown on Diana. She has such a wit and is a true story teller. Thanks for the entertainment...."Keeping it tidy" ...a line I'll never forget!
Love Tina Brown -- witty, insightful and says things in interesting ways... Miss Tina's TV show -- used to watch it every Sunday evening.
CHARLIE - BEEN WITH YOU SO LONG THAT I REGARD YOU AS A TRUSTED FRIEND. - BUT WE ARE ALL GETTING OLDER AND MAYBE A BIT AFRAID OF LOSING CONTROL OF THAT WHICH WE DO SO WELL. I CANNOT IMAGINE IN MY WILDEST NIGHTMARES THAT WOULD EVER HAPPEN TO CHARLIE ROSE. YOU TALK & I LISTEN! AND SO, WE BOTH CONTINUE THIS WONDERFUL LIFETIME!
I had to snap you off the instant I saw you interviewing Tina Brown. TINA BROWN??? Who picks these guest for you, Charlie??? There must be at least a hundred thousand people more substantial than Tina, who is basically just a gossip columnist. CPB should have better standards than that!! UGH!!!
Also, am a great fan of the show, but concur regarding Charlie's all too frequent and rambling interruptions. Keep the great guests coming! Thanks
We are fans of the show but unanimously believe the program would be even better if Charlie didn't interrupt guests while they are trying to respond to a very good question. Many thanks!
