A quite revealing program. After all, it was 'Mailer Distilled.' He was not only was one of the great writers of the 20th Century --what a compelling intelligence he evidenced! And, he is independent in thought and has a global take of humanity and the world. I'm glad that I taped it. His comments on Iraq [and Vietnam\ were scaringly precient. He was so on target a years before many of us fully realized the disasterous implications. Yes, democracy is fragile -- and is always in danger of evolving into a totalitarian state. But,perhaps this will serve (as Orwell's "1984" did) as a prophylactic to prevent the continuing decline of our country towards facism. Mr. Rose, I guess we'll have to put up with your unbridled need to interupt your guests... Your guests are the best! One more comment; I know you come from the South -- but, in New York, 'naked' is not pronounced 'neked.' Thanks for your programs!

He also had some wonderful insight into my Death. Mainly by freeing the man who would stab me repeatdly untill I died on a bathroom floor like a diseased san fransican, but please by all means lets focus on his brilliant analysis of Hitler.

In light of his passing today, MailerĂ¢??s comments are eerily poignant.

Mailer on Hitler. Amazing. There's been nobody else who had the moral and manly authority for the task. Brilliant analysis of Hitler.
