      I think CR should have asked this war-monger about accountability. Why are these people always so eager to jump up and say, "we need to take a stronger role in the world". But they refuse to accept resposibility for the American deaths, the civilian deaths, and and blowback that will occur because of their thoughts.... The most annoying thing is this guy probally makes 6 figures a year, and isnt worried about filling up his tank.

      I took away three things from this interview. 1) This co-founder of PNAC,Robert Kagan(foreighn policy advisor to McCain) doesn't want to be labeled a NeoCon - for good reason, but not the one he gave. 2) That if we follow his advice, We are doomed to repeat history. and 3) Charlie refuses to get tough with the very people he should be getting tough with. Shame on CR.

      Rather than write his disingenuously defensive tripe, Kagan should have read Naomi Klein's "The Shock Doctrine.

      Kagan is another of the ungracious men who chose for others what he would not choose for himself, ignored the evidence to the country, and has counseled the wrong course of action at every point along the way in Iraq. Why would you ask this man for an accurate assessment of the quagmire NOW? Observe that he is still incapable of recommending a gracious choice. His version of the 'national interest' begins with the economic rape of Iraq and cascades to global disaster from there. Instructive consequence, not 'unintended consequence', is the benefit of all ungracious choices. Our current challenges prove this. One does not disenfranchise a people in their own land without inviting consequence to one's self. Kagan is blind to this.

      what wonderful logic --

      - the world already hates us so we can do whatever we want;

      - we only knew what we read in the papers so invading iran was good;

      - responsible -- yeah -- that's responsible;

      - base of security -- did he say "base";

      - blowing up again -- did he say again -- much greater shape;

      - more and more ready ... but wait --

      - does this guy have any relatives fighting in iraq;

      - civil war -- we had a civil war -- did us some good;

      - reconstitute -- like orange juice -- give me a break;

      - talk -- talk -- you mean like bush talked to kadafi;

      - yeah -- we stopped iraq without talking to them;

      - so, the world already hates us so we can't talk to them -- say what;

      - yeah -- we don't want a president who needs to prove himself with a war;

      - the return of neo-cons and the end of our dreams ... and hope ... sounds right.
