achievemnts in science and technology are not possible without the intellectual freedom - the more free the society is the more it can achieve in the field of science. The academic freedom alone will not help children, at early stageges of development, to develop thinking habits necessary for such achievement. As our society becomes more rigid and less internally free so do our children. The reasons for a gradual self-limitations in the intellectual sphere ? The only reason is the gradual socialization of the society - socialism and the individual freedom do not walk together. It is easy to see why.

Congratulations, Charlie, on a superb interview with Pete Peterson; actually two superb interviews in succession. The Ted Turner conversation was equally delightful and informative. Not that others of your guests have been put in the shade, but these two made a strong impression on me and I thank you for it. Reading through some of the comments by other viewers, I was surprised to find so little gratitude and appreciation for what Mr. Peterson offered in the way of wisdom and knowledge from his long years of experience. I'm two years his junior and still cherish the America of our youth. Those who are delighted and enamored with your guests and with your ability to guide the conversation are, no doubt, also quite numerous. Otherwise the program obviously would not flourish. So, in an effort to applaud your skill and thank Mr. Peterson for his valuable contribution toward educating the American body politic, I feel privileged to offer these comments of support.
