Dear Charlie, In Tuesdayâ??s Art Section of the New York Times I saw Kakutaniâ??s review of Al Goreâ??s The Assault on Reason. Last night I listened to most of your interview with Vice President Gore. There was one mistake and perhaps one omission that I would politely suggest that Vice President Gore review. The mistake was in his use of Proverbs 29:18. He quoted this verse with the intended application (I believe) of supporting the idea that â?? where there is no foresight (vision) in terms of global warming, the people perish.â?? The word, vision, in the King James rendering of that verse is not the best for 21st century English readers and hearers. I have included below some modern translations that are correct along with the Hebrew original of Proverbs 29:18. ESV Proverbs 29:18 Where there is no prophetic vision the people cast off restraint, but blessed is he who keeps the law. KJV Proverbs 29:18 Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he. NAS Proverbs 29:18 Where there is no vision, the people are unrestrained, But happy is he who keeps the law. NIV Proverbs 29:18 Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; but blessed is he who keeps the law. hr"AT rmevow> ~[' [r:P'yI !Azx' !yaeB. WTT Proverbs 29:18 WhrEv.a; (The Hebrew comes across in PDF bu not this email) The omission from Vice President Goreâ??s presentation (at least as I read and heard him) was the important statistics concerning how much CO2 and other pollutants are thrust into the atmosphere by volcanic and other natural phenomena. I have listened and learned a great deal from your interviews over the years. I am not a â??political junkieâ??, but I am like Mr. Iacocca an Independent. Best regards, Ed. Robson Pastor Edward A.
