I taped this interview when it was originally broadcast and have played it several times since...sharing it with young film makers that I mentor. Ever since I was in high school and George Lucas came to shoot his film "American Graffiti" in our downtown he has had an important impact on my life both personally and professionally. Back in 1982 I interviewed with George about a position. I spent a delightful morning with George, his daughter and his dog, Indiana. I was torn...although I knew it would have been an incredible opportunity to work with George, it would have been too close to home to stay in Marin and work for him. (George lives just blocks away from my childhood home and the neighborhood market I grew up with.) I chose to spread my wings in L. A. instead. George sent me the most incredible letter following our interview. The letter was so powerfully supportive that it not only inspired me to take a risk and start my own company but it also gave me the moral support to challenge and over come an addiction that would have killed me. I am so indebted to George and his wonderful right hand angel, Jane Bay, for the amazing happiness and success I am fortunate to experience today. I always feel that I am living on borrowed time and my days are dedicated to sharing my insight, experience and hope with young film makers and entrepreneurs who need support for their dreams. Today I am back in the home I grew up in and often see George at the market and other places around town. He is very quiet about the countless contributions he has made to improve the quality of life in our community. Some years back, one of the hardest things I've ever had to do was to stand up at a county hearing and express a difference of opinion I had with George regarding the location of a development he wanted to build. It was in part because of the love and support he shared with me years before...that I loved myself enough to have the courage to risk his intense displeasure and judgement...and speak out against the proposed location. George's moral support years before has helped to give me the strength to boldly speak my truth and follow my path without reservation...even when that path seems so scary. It is always a joy to pass that strength and inspiration on to others ...and it is always a joy to tell others about the person whose faith in me contained in a magical letter years ago...saved my life and helped bring unlimited blessings to me and my loved ones... Thank you so much George and Jane...God Bless you both. Love, Sharon A.Fox
