Being a Shia myself, I take an exceptionally strong offence to the ignorence of John Burns claim that Najaf is God forbid "Shias Mecca" and the "most" holy city in Islam for shias. Absolutely incorrect and wrong. The most holy city in Islam for Shias as well is Mecca where we go for pilgrimage. Second most holy city is Medina where Prophet himself is burried. After Mecca and Medina, Najaf comes where the Son-in-law of Prophet, Ali is burried, Ali is the first Imam (leader after the death of Prohet Muhammad) of Shias. They are Imams becasue they carry the blood of Muhammad in their veins. I cannot beleive that John Burns would make such an amaturish claim that Najaf is Shias Mecca. Mecca is house of God, Ali is not God he is the most respectable human being AFTER Prophet Muhammad for the Shias. Allah himself obviously takes precedence over Muhammad and Ali.
