Last year I met a visiting student from Tibet at my university. I think he had a great time experiencing our vestern culture and running through google with words he couldnt get a single result at in his own country/piece of China.

A follow-up is a must! The other, at this point uniquely American it seems, factor which I'd like explored is how these successful firms are shaping new forms of wealth creation and distribution. The level of philanthropy is astonishing as is the continued drive to providing free and open source technologies that are empowering individuals and entire communities. I'd like to hear more about the ethical basis upon which these huge commitments are based. Google (and others like the Gates Foundation) are re-energising the very best elements of an American capitalism that's all about overcoming structural inequality.

Isn't the Google story symbolic of the dot com industry? It is the classic story of two guys looking for a better way to do something which blossoms into a billion dollar idea. They show that America is still the land of opportunity regardless of what the pundits claim. Your mind begins to race thinking thinking about what the return has been on that initial $100,000 check they received. I agree with the other posts saying a follow-up is needed.

Altough I dug it from your precious archives, this interview remains quite enlightening on endeavor and achievement for two fellows that did not really like each other at first... Will you treat us with a follow up interview ?
