John Lasseter, Steve Jobs
A discussion with Steve Jobs and John Lasseter
Keywords:
An interview with Steve Jobs, co-founder of Apple, about his company, Pixar, which creates animated characters and movies with computer software, and John Lasseter, the director of the Pixar film, "Toy Story", which follows toys that come to life.

I've seen this interview a couple of times and I reach the same conclusion about what Steve Jobs felt about this interview. I think he likes Charlie, probably someone he eats lunch with from time to time. However, I think he was a little "frightened" by Charlie's skills. Charlie brought keypoints which was hard to smoothly explain by Steve to favor himself, and Charlie also seemed to be able to look past Steve's selling speech... As for instance, himm turning entirely into entertainment, which isn't true. I don't think Jobs will be on Charlie anytime soon.
That's interesting that they referred to Next, and Jobs says "it's coming back around." The timing of this interview couldn't have been better; it took place either right before, or in the beginnings of Next' negotiations with Apple.
"I am going to come back in five years and you are going to be in some other business" Nice call Rose. You heard it here first folks charlie rose predicted the iPod, iTunes, and the iPhone before any other rumor site even was created.
Whoever said it was a bad interview doesn't know much about interviewing. Good interviewers know when to melt into the background and let the subject talk, and when to jump in and steer the conversation. Charlie Rose did just what needed to be done. That fact that Jobs was engaged the whole time shows Rose was on his game. Period.
Why is Microsoft a keyword and Disney not? Disney had much more mention in the interview than Microsoft (only mentioned in passing...) Hmmm...
This is Charlie Rose at his worst. He's often quite better, especially in more recent interviews.
Yeah, but despite everything he's managed to extract the essence of the subject, and gave the audience a very accurate feeling of what the guests were up to, how they were feeling, etc. I found what came out of the discussion very interesting. I think the guests didn't get annoyed by the interruptions because the interviewer just wanted to go deeper into the subject. He indirectly tried to reveal what everybody was wondering at this time about Steve and his career, his feeling towards Apple at the time and towards Microsoft. Loved it when he said all what Apple was about, the innovation and the stuff they made lived through Windows 95.
Great ending words by Jobs :)
I'm not sure I've ever watched a more incompetent interviewer. I mean that in a nice way, but seriously, for a person with prepared questions in front of him, Rose seems to be rambling, reaching for questions and restating what his interviewees have already said in the form of a question.
This is my first exposure to Charlie Rose. Is it his style to interrupt the people he's interviewing and tell them what he wants them to say?
"Ancient history to me."
