Wright. I thought that the sermon, the excerpts of which brought about so much controversy, was absolutely brilliant, insofar as it asks us to wake up to certain realities going on in the world around us. Yes, of course, the 15 second blip standing alone, is tremendously inflammatory and seemingly damaging to Mr.Obama's campaign.
Could it possibly mean that we are to ask for a government which returns to the founding fathers ideal of the separation of church and state, and yet live our individual lives with a greater sense of responsibility, both individually and collectively as a nation?
How counterintuitive on the part of both...whether consciously or not.
Thank you Mr.Rose and Mr.Moyers for one more brilliant interview. You are each so very gifted and inspiring.

Go to www.dictionary.com and look up the word "elite" and then the word "elitist". You clearly have no idea how Mr Moyers and Senator Clinton would use the terms since you dont know what they mean.

Comment On: A remembrance of screen legend Marlon Brando

Adolf
Friday, May 9
In politics, all the artists are innocents.

Comment On: A conversation with Bill Moyers

Barrie O. Bill Moyers and Charlie Rose gave us all an example of what intelligent discourse is possible on the airwaves ... What is so unfortunate is that so few will have seen this or in many cases the level of education obtained by the citizenry is so low that many are incapable of absorbing and evaluating what they were saying ...

"Above all things I hope the education of the common people will be attended to, convinced that on their good sense we may rely with the most security for the preservation of a due degree of liberty."

--Thomas Jefferson to James Madison, 1787.

Thank you Charlie ... and Thank you Bill ... You are both doing the heroic when you discuss matters so forthrightly ...

What disturbed me, though, in the discussion about Sen. Obama, was the glossing over of the word "elite" as applied to the senator. I'm from Oklahoma, I grew up in the age of segregation; I have a college degree, I'm in the "older women"category courted by Sen. Clinton. I know, as does Charlie Rose and Bill Moyers, that the word "elite" as used by Sen. Clinton to describe Sen. Obama is a nasty, racial code word for "uppity Black." Sorry, to say it out loud, but it's true, and you two guys, from Texas and North Carolina, took a pass. Where was your backbone?

Comment On: A conversation with Bill Moyers

I Love Bill Moyers!
Friday, May 9
I am totally with him about the corporate media being totally directed by the corporate mother ships. Many thanks to him for being one of the few voices of reason and courage. I do have a question though - if in his eyes Obama cannot fight the status quo either, than what good is it that he is a great speaker who attracts people? Is winiing a nomination really so meaningless - if/when he actually does?

Comment On: A conversation with Bill Moyers

Allan Ramesh
Friday, May 9
Regarding the Jeremiah Wright issue, as a person of color in the United States, I am very frustrated that the American public has so vilified Rev Wright, while the hatred spewed from the mouths of the likes of John Hagee is accepted as normal and even embraced. How can this be? Politicians who are congregation member of a Hagee and other right wing white preachers risk no condemnation. Indeed, our political leaders like President Bush and Senator McCain seek the support of these right wing Armageddon preachers. They preach of using nukes against Iran, they teach hatred of all types, the talk of fantastical end-of-the-world scenarios. In other words, they are total nut-cases.

Letâ??s be honest, there is only one reason that Rev Wright is being condemned while Hagee is not. The reason is color. We are still fearful of the angry black man with a cause. So poor Obama has to pussy-foot around Rev Wrightâ??s very reasonable assertion that we will reap what we sow when it comes to spreading war around the world. Another radical said that we reap what we sow and he too was crucified.

The liberals don't understand that no one has information until they try things and see how they work out. The Middle East analysis of G.H.W Bush's administration was too old to be worth anything.
The liberals do not appreciate the greater safety and security we all have because of people like Meghan O'Sullivan. We need to work hard to get McCain in the Whitehouse so that Meghan and the other hard-working Republicans that have given us 8 years of peace and prosperity can come back to secure our future.
Stay the course!

Comment On: A conversation with Bill Moyers

deborah conner
Friday, May 9
Also wanted to say -- the problem, Charlie, with the press policing itself is that most of it is owned by the corporations.
