Umberto Eco
Umberto Eco is an Italian medievalist, philosopher and novelist, who has written numerous fictional novels and books about philosophy. He is best known for his novel 'The Name of the Rose' ('Il nome della rosa').
Eco was the cultural editor for the state broadcasting station Radiotelevisione Italiana and soon after his first book, 'Il problema estetico di San Tommaso' was published, he began lecturing at the University of Turin (1956-64). From 1959 until 1975, Eco was the non-fiction senior editor of Casa Editrice Bompiani of Milan. He has a number of honorary doctorates and has even written books for children.
