Stephen David Daldry, CBE, is an English film and theater director and producer. He trained at East 15 Acting School, London.
For the stage, Daldry directed "An Inspector Calls" (1992), "Machinal" (1993), and "Billy Elliot the Musical" (2005). Both "An Inspector Calls" and "Machinal" were awarded the Laurence Olivier Theater Award for Best Director of a Play. "An Inspector Calls" also won the 1992 London Evening Standard Theater Award for Best Director and the London Critics Circle Theater Award for Best Firector. When the play came to Broadway in 1994, Daldry was awarded a Tony for Best Director. For film, he has directed "Eight" (1998), "Billy Elliot" (2000), "The Hours" (2002), "Cinema16"(2003) and "The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay" (2007). Both "Billy Elliott" and "The Hours" received Academy Award nominations for Best Director, and won numerous other awards.
