Robert Zemeckis is an Academy Award-winning American movie director, producer and writer. He first came to public attention in the eighties as the director of movies like "Back to the Future" and "Who Framed Roger Rabbit", though he has since diversified into more dramatic fare, including "Forrest Gump", for which he won an Oscar.

Zemeckis' films are characterized by an interest in state-of-the-art technology. His 2004 film "The Polar Express" utilized the computer animation technique known as performance capture. Zemeckis will use the technology again in his latest film, "Beowulf", scheduled to be released in 2007.
