Lawrence Eagleburger
Lawrence Eagleburger is chairman of the International Commission on Holocaust-Era Insurance Claims and former Secretary of State under President George H. W. Bush.
In 1957, Eagleburger joined the U.S. Foreign Service. He served as an assistant to National Security Advisor Henry Kissinger from 1969-1971 under President Nixon. After filling a number of posts in the State Department, Eagleburger briefly left politics but returned when Jimmy Carter appointed him ambassador to Yugoslavia in 1977.
In 1982, Reagan appointed him Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs. Later, Bush appointed him Deputy Secretary of State, and when James A. Baker resigned as Secretary of State, Eagleburger took his place.
