Fred Valentine
Fred Valentine

Fred Valentine is a professor of medicine and microbiology at New York University and the director of the NYU Center for AIDS Research. He has studied cellular immunology for over 30 years. He has investigated the clinical, immunologic, virologic, and therapeutic aspects of HIV/AIDS since he and colleagues identified the initial Pneumocystis jiroveci pneumonia (PCP) patient at Bellevue Hospital Center in 1980. He served as PI of the NYU/Bellevue AIDS Clinical Trials Unit (ACTU) for 18 years until 2004, and was a Chair of the FDA antiretroviral drugs advisory committee on which he served from 1990 through 1997. He is PI of a recently awarded program project grant to study the pathogenesis of acute HIV infection.
