David M. Childs is the Consulting Design Partner at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill who has projects all over the world and now is designing the Freedom Tower in New York.
He was appointed by the President to serve as Chairman of the National Capital Planning Commission, a position he filled from 1975 to 1981. His current civic involvements include memberships on the boards of the American Academy in Rome, the Museum of Modern Art, the Municipal Art Society, the New York City Partnership, and the National Building Museum.
Childs completed projects in Washington D.C. including, among many others, the Washington Mall master plan and Constitution Gardens; the National Geographic headquarters building; the U.S. News and World Report headquarters; and the Four Seasons.
