Mark Warner is an American businessman and politician who served one term as governor of Virginia.
Originally from Indianapolis, Warner graduated from George Washington University and Harvard Law School. After settling in Virginia and working as a congressional staff member, Warner founded a successful venture capital fund that invested in technology companies, serving as its managing director until 2002. A moderate Democrat, Warner managed L. Douglas Wilder’s successful 1989 Virginia gubernatorial campaign and served as Virginia Democratic party chairman from 1993 to 1995.
He ran unsuccessfully for the U.S. Senate in 1996. In 2001, Warner was elected governor of Virginia, a position he held until 2006.
