Dr. Karl Gerth is an internationally-recognized authority on Chinese consumerism. His latest book, As China Goes, So Goes the World: How Chinese Consumers are Transforming Everything, has been described as “essential reading for anyone trying to make sense of China today.” He holds a PhD from Harvard University and is a professor of Chinese studies at Oxford University. He has received numerous research awards, including from the US Fulbright Foundation, the British Academy, and the Japanese Ministry of Education. He is currently the China co-team leader of the Ceres21 Project, sponsored by the Norwegian Research Council, which is investigating innovative adaptations in the automotive and power industries to climate and environmental change on three continents. Karl is a sought after speaker to international businesses, civic organizations, and educational institutions. He has recently taken up competitive rowing.
