J.D. Crouch II is deputy national security adviser and assistant to the president. In announcing Crouch’s nomination to be deputy national security adviser, President George W. Bush said: “J.D. Crouch’s extensive experience in national defense and foreign policy will make him a valued member of my national security team.”(January 31, 2005). This appointment, serving under National Security Council Adviser Stephen Hadley, is Crouch?s third post under George W. Bush. Before serving as ambassador to Romania, his previous job, Crouch was an assistant secretary of defense for international security policy.
Crouch has proved to be one of the staunchest supporters of the administration’s hard-line security and war on terror policies. Crouch reportedly led the review team that produced the “surge” strategy for boosting the number of US troops in Iraq.
