Thierry Breton is the French Minister of Economy, Finance, and Industry. He was appointed on February 25, 2005, replacing Hervé Gaymard.

Prior to becoming Finance Minister, he was the chief executive of France Télécom. He is a knight of the Légion d’honneur and an officer of the Ordre National du Mérite. For a time, he was also an entrepreneur based in New York and wrote novels about cyberspace, including the sciencefiction best seller entitled “Softwar.”
