Dr. Tadataka Yamada is a Senior Advisor at Frazier Healthcare Ventures. He joined the firm in 2006 and serves in the biopharma team. Dr. Yamada also serves as the President of Global Health Program at Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. In this role, he leads the foundation’s efforts to help develop and deliver low cost, life saving health tools for the developing world. Dr. Yamada also oversees the foundations global health grant portfolio and global health advocacy … program. Prior to this, he served at GlaxoSmithkline, where he was the Chairman of Research and Development at since February 1999 and had been a Non Executive Director since February 1994. Dr. Yamada also served as the President and Executive Director of firm’s healthcare services from February 1996 to February 1999. From June 1990 to February 1996, he was the Chairman of the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan Medical School and Physician-in-Chief at the University of Michigan Medical Center. Dr. Yamada also served as a Professor and Chief of the Gastroenterology Division at the University of Michigan Medical School’s Internal Medicine department. Prior to his work at the University of Michigan, Dr. Yamada was an Associate Professor of Medicine at the UCLA School of Medicine. He serves as a Trustee at Rockefeller Brothers Fund and The Franklin Institute. Dr. Yamada is a Director at Mallinckrodt Inc. He serves as a Director, Member of Nominating & Governance Committee, and Compliance Committee at Covidien Ltd. Dr. Yamada is a Director and Member of Audit Committee at HLTH Corporation since May 1998. He previously served as a Director at diaDexus Inc and Bioadvance. He is a past President of the American Gastroenterological Association and the Association of American Physicians, a Master of the American College of Physicians, a Fellow of the Imperial College of Medicine, and a Member of the Institute of Medicine of National Academy of Science in the U.S. and the Academy of Medical Sciences in the United kingdom. Dr. Yamada holds a B.A. in History from Stanford University and an M.D. from the New York University School of Medicine.
