Bruce Jay Friedman is an American novelist, screenwriter, and playwright.

After attending the University of Missouri and serving in the United States Air Force, Friedman published “Stern”, the first of his eight novels in 1962. He also wrote the screenplay for the Richard Pryor/Gene Wilder film “Stir Crazy”.
