William Blaine “Bill” Richardson III is an American politician elected Governor of New Mexico in 2002. He is also a 2008 exploratory candidate for President of the United States.

In 1997, President Bill Clinton appointed him as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. He served there until 1998, when he was appointed as U.S. Secretary of Energy. He was chairman of the 2004 Democratic National Convention as well as Chairman of the Democratic Governors Association in 2005 and 2006.

Richardson spent more than 14 years in Congress. With the end of the Clinton administration in January 2001, Richardson commenced teaching at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government.
