Joseph R. Perella is an investment banker. He began his career as analyst at First Boston, and rose to prominence in the 1980’s pioneering mergers and acquisitions advisory with his partner Bruce Wasserstein. In 1992, Perella left the firm they founded, Wasserstein Perella & Co., to join Morgan Stanley. In 2006, Perella announced the formation of a new financial services firm, Perella Weinberg Partners based in New York and London.
Perella is also a trustee of Lehigh University and, in 2004, he and his wife Amy donated $10 million to the College of Business and Economics to endow the Perella Department of Finance. In addition, the couple created The Amy and Joseph Perella Professor of Medicine at Yale University. He also sits on the board of the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA).
