Peg Tyre is the general editor of “Newsweek” magazine, a position she has held since January 2001. She covers social trends, women’s issues, education and health. She worked on “The Trail of Terror,” a 2003 cover story which won awards from the Overseas Press Club, New York Press Club and the Association for Women in Communications. Previously, Tyre was a staff reporter at “New York Newsday,” where she was part of a group of reporters who won a Pulitzer Prize in 1991 for their coverage of a fatal subway crash in New York City. That same year, she received the Newswoman’s Club “Front Page Award” for her coverage of a death in police custody which led to the indictment of five New York City police officers.
Tyre has published two novels: “Strangers in the Night” and “In the Midnight Hour.” She was a co-author of “Two Seconds Under the World,” a non-fiction book about the first attack on the World Trade Center in 1993. She has taught at Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
