Philip King Howard is an American lawyer and author. His books include “The Death of Common Sense” and “The Lost Art of Drawing the Line”. He was also special advisor on regulatory simplification to the Securities and Exchange Commission, worked on environmental and management reforms with Vice-President Al Gore’s reinventing government program, advised Senator Bob Dole on regulatory reform, and worked with Governor Zell Miller in Georgia, Bill Weld in Massachusetts and Lawton Chiles in Florida, among others.
Currently chairman of a leading civic group in New York, he worked on saving Grand Central Terminal, blocked a tower that would have cast a shadow across Central Park and championed a new Penn Station at the landmark Farley Post Office building. He was named “one of New York’s heroes” by the “Village Voice” for his community work. He is also is a periodic contributor to the editorial pages of “The New York Times” and “The Wall Street Journal”.
