Dr. Jules Hirsch is a professor at Rockefeller University in New York and a senior physician at the university’s hospital. His studies showing that fat people are biochemically different from thin people are a vindication of a view he has promoted for more than two decades. In addition to directing research on animals and people who gain weight, he has served as chairman of a National Institutes of Health panel on obesity. He was also president of the American Society of Clinical Nutrition and is now president of the medical section of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
