Sir Alistair Allan Horne is a British historian of modern France. He worked as a foreign correspondent for “The Daily Telegraph” and is an Honorary Fellow of St Antony’s College, Oxford. In 1992 he was awarded the CBE; in 1993 he received the French Légion d’Honneur for his work on French history and a Litt.D. from Cambridge University.

Horne is also the biographer of Prime Minister Harold Macmillan and he is currently working on an official biography of Henry Kissinger. As a result of the Iraq War, his 1977 book “A Savage War of Peace: Algeria” became widely sought after by American military officers beginning in 2003 because of its description of insurgent combat tactics. It was recommended to U.S. President George W. Bush by former United States Secretary of State, Henry Kissinger. In October, 2006 the book was republished.
