Daniel Coats is an American diplomat and Republican politician. He is a member of the Republican party. From 1981 to 1988, Daniel served in the United States House of Representatives as a representative from Indiana. From 2001 to 2005, Coats was the U.S. ambassador to Germany. In 2005, he drew attention when he was chosen by President George W. Bush to shepherd Harriet Miers’ nomination to the Supreme Court through the Senate.
