Charles Durning is an American theater and movie actor. After serving in World War II and landing on D-Day in the Normandy Invasion, he was awarded a Silver Star, three Purple Heart medals, and a Good Conduct Medal.
Durning has performed in 32 plays, and in 1990 he won the Tony Award for Featured Actor in a Play for his role in ‘Cat on a Hot Tin Roof’. He is also well known for many of his movie roles, including his character in ‘Sting’ in 1973. More recently he appeared in ‘Home for the Holidays’ and ‘O Brother, Where Art Thou’.
