Anthony Cordesman is an American expert on energy, the MiddleEat, and North Africa. He has held the Arleigh A. Burke Chair in Strategy at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. He also serves as a national security analyst for ABC News.

Cordesman has received the Department of Defense’s Distinguished Service medal, and has been a professor in national security studies at Georgetown University. Among his controversial stands, he challenged a study in The Lancet, a British medical journal, which concluded in 2006 that 600,000 Iraqis had been killed in the war, stating that this number was too high.
