Nancy S. Wexler is professor of neuropsychology at Columbia University and president of the Hereditary Disease Foundation. She is known for her scientific contributions toward a cure for Huntington’s disease. Dr. Wexler has led a twenty-year study focusing on the world’s largest family with Huntington’s disease, which led to the discovery of a gene associated with the disease at the tip of human chromosome 4. One result of her work was the development of a presymptomatic test for Huntington’s disease that can determine who is carrying the fatal gene prior to the onset of symptoms.
