The Rev. Edward Malloy is an American writer and professor. He served from 1987 to 2005 as the 16th president of the University of Notre Dame. He is a full professor in the Department of Theology and has been a member of the Notre Dame faculty since 1974. He is author of several books, including “Monk?s Travels: People, Places and Events”, and ” Monk’s Reflections: A View from the Dome”. He was a co-editor of “Colleges and Universities as Citizens”, and has written more than 50 articles and book chapters.
Father Malloy has been recognized by several prominent Irish-American organizations and is a recipient of the National Association of Basketball Coaches Balfour Silver Anniversary Award, given to former varsity basketball players who have distinguished themselves in civic leadership and service. He has served in leadership roles as chair of the American Council on Education (ACE), the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges (AGB), and Campus Compact.
Malloy has also served the Catholic Church on the Vatican Secretariat for Non-Believers, and the Ex Corde Ecclesiae and Bishops-Presidents committees of the U.S. Catholic Conference, among others.
